Deer Island Chapter

Deer Island is about 2.5 hours drive and a ferry ride from Fredericton. It's population is about 600 year-round. The major employer at the Island is East Coast Seafood/Paturel which employs over 70 Filipino workers and growing. Upon learning that there are Filipino workers in Deer Island, I made several inquiries and spoke with Ms. Jackie Vinluan and Ms. Ave Esparagoza, both working at East Coast Seafood, for FANB to visit our Kababayans and find out how the Association can help them. Our first visit was set on August 2,012 with the help of Ms. Esparagoza and Ms. Vinluan and the help of the management.

On our first visit, I had a chance to talk with the General Manager of the Company and he is pleased and grateful for the professionalism of our Kababayans. MABUHAY DEER ISLAND GROUP!!!. During our meeting, we explained them the purpose of our visit, how we can be of service to them and the advantage of forming their own FANB chapter. Ms. Esparagoza concurred with us that it will be in their best interest to have one voice for everyone. Because of the availabilities of some of our Kababayans, they requested that the forming of their Chapter be postponed to some other day. The next visit was scheduled on September 10, 2012.

Our second visit on September, 2012, was attended by over 40 of our Kababayans. An election was held, and the following were elected officers of FANB Chapter. Prior to the election, we had Q & A session where most of the questions were about immigration.
